Families USA’s annual Health Action conference convenes health advocates from around the country to share, learn, and collaborate, with each other. In addition to the annual conference theme, 2020 marked Health Action’s 25th anniversary, and creative was developed for both.
The annual theme was: “Our Nation’s Health in the Balance.”
The visuals:
I chose the American flag because there is no better symbol to represent our nation. Before it stands a diverse range of people — the people who make up America and whose health and health care hangs in the balance.
The visual tone is bold, expectant, and watchful as the health, health care, and financial security of those in our nation remain at risk.

How Charming! was Kentucky Bride magazine’s annual bridal event. Located in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky, this event elevated the bridal show to an interactive experience. With valet parking, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, How Charming! pampered brides-to-be in the classy and exciting setting of Keeneland Racecourse.

Harlan's KIDS is an educational magazine for elementary school children in Bullitt, Oldham and Jefferson counties in Louisville, KY.
I designed the magazine and logo, and laid out and drew custom digital illustrations.
With young children as the audience, I chose playful colors, graphic arrangements, and typography to convey a sense of fun and excitement.

An award winning magazine, Kentucky Bride serves as a guide for brides and features stunning weddings in the bluegrass state.
I chose palettes, fonts, photos, and graphic elements that expressed the elegance, timelessness, and beauty of the couples whose stories we showcased.
I developed the magazine’s design and laid out each issue. In addition, I was responsible for designing the publication’s print and digital promotion, as well as designed marketing collateral for its advertisers.

Kentucky Cities Magazine: Produced by the Kentucky League of Cities, a non-stock, nonprofit membership association that serves leaders, including mayors and legislators, across the state of Kentucky.
Pipeline: Produced by the Missouri Petroleum & Convenience Association that represents independent businesses in the petroleum and convenience industry.
Food and Fuel Magazine (formerly, Fueling Indiana): Produced by the Indiana Food & Fuel Association (formerly the Indiana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association) which advocates for members and engages with legislative developments and issues that impact Indiana's petroleum, convenience, and food retail industry.

Rooted in systemic and unjust social and economic policies, health disparities were exacerbated by the pandemic. This infographic called attention to them as well as policy solutions to bring about equity.

This infographic was produced to bring clarity to the issue of health insurance and filing taxes. Written in plain language, the decision tree structure was chosen to simplify a challenging topic and the supporting visuals of the woman and dog add a sense of disarming and fun to an otherwise dry and intimidating topic.

Clarendon-Courthouse Civic Association Flyer
The association wanted to invite community involvement.

Collaborating with the senior director of communications, and a digital firm, I led and implemented the visual redesign of Families USA’s website. I designed a modern interface to convey Families USA’s thought leadership in the consumer health care advocacy space.
Using photography representative of the people for which Families USA advocates, photos of its storytellers, and design elements, the current website centers on families across the nation. Parallax scrolling and subtle animation are used to enhance the visual experience. The design is clean, bright, authoritative, and it conveys the hoped-for vision of a country where health and health care are equally accessible and affordable to all, in keeping with Families USA’s mission.

March to End High Drug Prices Social Promotion Graphics
Compared with other wealthy countries, people in America pay the highest for prescription drugs; oftentimes leading to families having to choose between life-saving drugs and feeding their families.
The Act to End High Drug Prices, a partnership between West Health and Families USA, advocates for lower drug prices and offers solutions to Congress on how best to do so.
The March to End High Drug Prices was a campaign to galvanize advocates across the country to urge Congress to protect the health of people in America by making drugs affordable.

Surprise Medical Billing Digital Newspaper Ad Campaign
The No Surprises: People Against Unfair Medical Bills campaign is a group of organizations representing consumers, patients, and workers. Its mission is to urge Congress to protect consumers from surprise medical bills by banning them and by preventing the inflation of health care costs.
This campaign had multiple phases throughout 2020 targeting key states and members of Congress. These two ad designs represent the campaign’s last leg for the year. To up the visual momentum and energy, I used diagonals and color gradients to move the eye. I also used brighter, warmer color palettes to make the ads pop out from the surrounding content and off the screen.
